Greetings Houston Area Alumni Family and Friends:
On July 1, 2017, I assumed the presidency of the JSU Houston Area Alumni Chapter. On July 1, 2019, I took office for a second term and I am extraordinarily proud to represent our community of alums in the Houston area.
As alums, we are justifiably proud to be a part of an institution so vital to shaping our futures. While Jackson State was instrumental to each of us in the past, today our beloved university needs us all the more. Due to continued state budget reductions in higher education, it is incumbent on the alumni to help insure this generation is able to draw sustenance from our dear old college home. Scholarships and programs will continue to require our support to attract students to our university.
The other elected officers and I have solidified a plan to continue our support of our alma mater. We are fervently committed to serving by diligently planning the calendar of events for this fiscal year. To that end, I would like to share two basic goals that we have set for the 2019-2021 term.
- Increasing chapter membership to a minimum of 135
- Contributing a minimum of $50,000 to the university
And we need you to be successful!
Therefore, the executive committee and I ask that you regularly review communications from the chapter, constantly remain informed about planned activities, and actively participate in our efforts to support our dear old college home.
Peace and Blessings,
Darryl T. Pilate
